Power Automedia’s CEO, James Lawrence, was recently elected to the 2017-2018 SEMA Board of Directors. Lawrence was elected to the SEMA board by a vote of SEMA-member companies that ended on May 24, 2017.

“I’ve been involved in, and love, the performance industry– I think there is nothing more important than making sure that it’s here for our kids. It’s important that we bring youth, technology, and passion to the forefront of the SEMA mission,” Lawrence said. “I want to make an enduring mark on the automotive industry and engage the next generation so that we have something to be proud of for the next 25 years.”

Tim Martin from K&N Engineering was elected the chairman-elect of SEMA and will help the SEMA Board of Directors lead the association for the 2017-2019 term. Martin fills the position held for the past two years by Wade Kawasaki of The Coker Group. Kawasaki will begin serving his term as chairman in July. Greg Adler from Transamerican Auto Parts was re-elected and will serve another term.

SEMA Board members are industry representatives who volunteer their time to lead and guide the association. They are elected by all SEMA-member companies and represent the key membership categories: manufacturers, distributors/retailers, manufacturer reps, and services.

The entire 2017-’18 SEMA Board of Directors will be honored and recognized during the SEMA Installation and Gala in July.
Power Automedia’s Business Development Director, Lloyd Hunt, was also elected to the HRIA 2017-2019 Select Council. Hunt will aid in steering the direction of the HRIA group and advancing the hobby, all while providing an experienced voice for Power Automedia’s industry segment.

Factory Five Cobra Jet Challenge Car Rendering

For the first time since its founding 10 years ago, Power Automedia entered a project car in the prestigious SEMA Show. The build is one of the most ambitious, baddest street cars our team of builders, visionaries, and in-house professionals have ever envisioned.

FFR Cobra Challenge Car_Garage build 3Built almost entirely in a home garage using basic tools, the Factory Five Cobra Jet Challenge Car made its debut at SEMA in Las Vegas in December 2015.

As a featured automobile in the SEMA Battle of the Builders competition, the Challenge Car is constructed of raw billet and carbon fiber with a satin luster, which gives it a rugged, yet sleek and modern appearance without losing the distinctive profile these roadsters are known for.

“This is a true, two-car home garage build that has only been worked on after hours and on the weekends in the last year,” said Mark Gearhart, builder. “We finished it up in our Power Automedia Tech Center due to the SEMA time constraints, and to perform final tests on our in-house Dynojet.”

FFR Cobra Challenge_Cage Toyo TiresThe basis of the project is a proven Factory Five MK4 Challenge series car with the optional Street Completion package (which consists of a second seat, carpet, and a windshield) that adds to its road-worthiness. The Challenge kit differentiates itself from the standard Roadster kit due to its fully integrated, NASA legal cage, a robust halo bar, and fully integrated door bars. A Factory Five standard three-link rear suspension and tubular front suspension are a few of the additional items that are included with the kit.

2015-11-05_05-48-34Purpose-built for track and street use, the 2,100-pound car will be driven to and from the track when it’s raced. It is powered by a fully-built 312 cubic-inch Coyote engine featuring a Livernois-sleeved 3.700-inch bore block and Mahle pistons. It makes more than 530 rear-wheel horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque at a conservative 12:1 compression ratio utilizing InnoV8 billet individual throttle bodies for its aspiration.
